I learned that if you are going to be late to the doctor, it pays to call ahead. It makes it easier for the office to juggle around you and it makes it more likely that you’ll get in at all.
Leaning not to be late in the first place is a different lesson. Stay tuned. The year is not over.
I learned that if you want to charge your cell phone you really need to plug in both ends of the cord.
After all these years, I learned that the Weber kettle gill has a hook inside the cover so you can hang it vertically on the side of the grill, rather than put it down in the sand or wave it around in one hand while you manage the food.
Ruth taught this to me. She learned it from seeing it illustrated in an ad and found out they all have this hook!
I have learned that even if it’s hot out, I still need an extra layer for the bus because it’s freezing in the morning. Then once off the bus, even if it seem cool enough at the start of a morning walk in the peak of summer, it’s soon going to be sweltering so go ahead and peel those layers off in advance.

I have learned that Outlook has a dropdown for recently-used meeting locations. Since I use the same things over and over in that field (long dialin strings, the same rooms), this is nice time-saver.

I learned that my blackberry storm has a camera button on the right side, so I don’t need to keep fumbling and scrolling through touch-screen options to take a picture!
I learned, months too late, that my company”s HR department can provide a FedEx number for a newly-terminated employee to return a laptop once they have left the building.
I have learned that it’s important to set your default printer. If your computer is re-imaged (because , for example, you work somewhere that had re-imaging as the solution for all problems computer) then you have to set the defaut printer AGAIN.
If you don’t do this, you may be printing who-knows-what, from your home office, on the big public printer in the office!
I have learned, from Barbara and then by my own experience, that you can take unopened (only) bottles of water (only) into Red Sox games. Those people with those six-packs of ice cold water looked mighty smart on that sweltering day when the rest of us were going in to pay outrageous prices for water in plastic!
