I have learned and practiced a very valuable new skill recently. I can listen to a long list of professional and personal (sometimes the line is blurry) criticism. And I can just listen.
I have learned and practiced a very valuable new skill recently. I can listen to a long list of professional and personal (sometimes the line is blurry) criticism. And I can just listen.
This is a very important lesson that I learned, as well, over the past two years. Most criticism is so subjective – unless it rings true and I can learn from it, I brush it off.
This lesson seems to be the very “cornerstone” of moving forward in my life! I first learned this lesson in 1986 when I was grieved by a large union staff who took a dim view of their new employee handbook being illustrated in cartoon format by me! ( this had been well recieved at a previous work place.) Does this remind you of your post, A picture is Worth? Well anyway, the meeting was brutal, surrounded by 40+ angry fellow employees. My management rep, quite famous for his expertise, (I worked for Harvard) loved that I never cried, and thanked me for being a great listener!
