Why God Invented Wal-Mart

Today I learned to NEVER buy plumbing supplies at a plumbing supply store.  I paid more that twice the price than the same item at Wal-Mart and Home Depot AND it had a piece missing AND when I went back to get that piece they were closed on weekends!

Oh and I also learned not to count on the plumber showing up and how to install a float valve in a toilet.

See What I Mean?

Skype has THE coolest function, which is a free no-overhead basic screen sharing function without any of the fuss of WebEx.  It’s “Share your screen” under the “Call” menu.

You conversation partner can see your whole screen.  Not lots of options, but easy as pie.

Why didn’t Kat and I know this at tax time???  Would have been much better than the convoluted scheme we ran to see almost the same screens.

Identify Yourself!

From Sally:

Even if you are just attending a rally to take notes and see what the fuss is about, people will think you’re a supporter of the cause unless you make a conscious effort to identify yourself, and the “wrong” people will congratulate you for coming. Wear a button, a shirt, bring a sign, etc. to clarify which side you’re really on.

Tax Day Cometh

Ok, I thought I learned the lesson: Do the taxes early.  And I did.  All done, check sent, check received, check!

But the bigger lesson is to get the OTHER taxes done early, too.  So that includes my mother-in-law’s taxes and those of any beloved family members who need my help and may end up against the deadline.

Now: All done!

It seems to be less awful when done early.   Will try to remember for next year.

Catch It Early – Health edition

I may have finally learned how to start taking it easy at the start of a cold!  Ususally I push through, as a form of denial and some deeply embedded (and somewhat surprising) work ethic.  This time I did the right thing, which meant trading a few days worth of 5-6 hours commuting for more sleep and actually getting more done at work from my home office.  The world did not end.  I got better quickly.  Who knew?

Catch It Early – Household edition

Cindy B says this:

I’ve learned that I shouldn’t let my house get this far gone before I start cleaning it…. And the lesson is learned once the cleaning has begun and you start kicking yourself in the butt. It may, however, be one of those things that you have to learn over and over again, unlike bicycle riding.
